MARSHALL, Minn. – No. 1 ranked St. Cloud State remained undefeated with a doubleheader sweep over Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday, winning 8-4 and 21-0, in NSIC baseball at Alumni Field.

The Huskies (19-0, 4-0 NSIC) belted eight home runs, while SCSU pitchers combined to record 25 strikeouts and held SMSU to just nine hits in the two games.

In the opener, SCSU scored the game's first run in the top of the first, but SMSU answered in the home half as
Jayden Fleck started the inning with a single and moments later
Tanner Picht ripped a two-run homer over the right-centerfield wall to give SMSU a 2-1 lead.

SCSU regained the lead in the third inning pushing across three runs to build a 4-2 advantage.

SMSU answered right back in the bottom of the frame as
Derek Branson coaxed a two-out walk and was followed by a homer over the right field fence by
Jon Leighton to tie the game at 4-4.

The Huskies came back with solo home runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to make the score 6-4.

The Mustangs threatened in the bottom of the fifth putting runners on first and second with one out, but back-to-back strikeouts closed the rally attempt.

SCSU then pushed across two insurance runs in the sixth inning to extend the margin to 8-4.

Leighton led the SMSU offense with two hits.

Erik Thorvilson (0-2) suffered the loss for SMSU tossing 5 1/3 innings, giving up seven runs on eight hits with four walks and one strikeout.

SCSU relief pitcher Kevin Bolder (3-0) pitched the final four innings to earn the win, allowing just one hits, while racking up 11 strikeouts.

In game two, SCSU opened the game with three runs in the first, added four in the second and put the game away with a 10-run third inning. The Huskies finished the game with five home runs and recorded 24 hits.

SMSU was held to just four hits in game two with Fleck, Branson, Leighton and
Tanner Luebke each collecting one hit.

Connor Johnson (0-2) started on the mound for SMSU, but lasted just 2 2/3 innings, allowing nine runs on nine hits.

The two teams conclude the four-game series tomorrow at Alumni Field starting at 12 p.m.
