DENVER, Colo. — The No. 5 Mustangs dropped their final match of the weekend and the championship pairing in the Colorado Premier Challenge losing to the first ranked team in the nation and fellow NSIC opponent, Concordia-St. Paul 25-16, 23-25, 25-23, 25-16.
Sarah Parker led the Mustangs in kills (15) for the second time this weekend adding three blocks as well.
Taylor Reiss added another 14 kills while
Eisha Oden finished with four total blocks.
Amber Messner finished the night with 16 digs and setter,
Megan Larson had 41 assists, but the Mustangs suffered from six service errors.
Top ranked Concorida-St. Paul entered the match having not lost a single set in their first seven matches to start the season and took the first set over the Mustangs 25-16.
SMSU answered in set number two which was tightly contested throughout. With the match even at 20-20, the Mustangs pulled away from CSP to take the second set 25-23 and even the match at one set apiece.
The third set was also back and forth with two teams deadlocked at 23-23 but Concordia was able to take the next two points to win the set 25-23 to go up 2-1. Concordia-St. Paul led the entire fourth and final set to win 3-1 and remain unbeaten, improving their overall record to 8-0.
The Mustangs (6-2) head back to Marshall to prepare for their home opener on Thursday night at 7 p.m. against Augustana in the first NSIC match of the year for SMSU.
