MARSHALL, Minn. - The fourth ranked Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team suffered a loss in its home opener to Augustana, 17-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-18, 15-11.
Taylor Reiss had a double double off 27 kills and 14 digs
Megan Larson had 56 assists but the Mustangs dropped the final two sets in a 3-2 loss that came down to the wire.
SMSU never trailed in the opening set and hit .368 as a team but No. 20 Augustana responded well with 19 kills and a .484 hitting percentage as a team in set two to help the Vikings even the match at 1-1.
The Mustangs regained the lead in the match winning the third set 25-18 but couldn't close out the match in the tight fourth set in which there were 10 ties and three lead changes between the two sides.

Eisha Oden, and
Kaylee Burmeister were also able to reach double digits in kills, tallying 12, 11, and 10 kills respectively while
Erin Corrigan was able to rack up 10 digs for the Mustangs. Setter,
Megan Larson, was able to add 5 kills as well on the offensive end and also had 8 digs.
SMSU committed 7 service errors on the night, dropping their conference opener and second straight home opener to move to 6-3 (0-1 NSIC) while Augustana improves to 8-1 (1-0 NSIC). Southwest Minnesota State will now travel to face second ranked Wayne State on Saturday 2 p.m.
