WAYNE, Neb. – The fourth ranked Southwest Minnesota State women's volleyball team bounced back from a tough loss on Thursday night with a dominant victory over No. 2 Wayne State on the road, 25-21, 25-17, 25-23.
Taylor Reiss had her second straight double double with 16 kills and 10 digs while
Kaylee Burmeister also recorded a double double with 10 kills and 12 digs as SMSU swept Wayne State for its first conference win of the season.
Sarah Parker had eight kills and five blocks while setter
Megan Larson added five kills and nine digs to her 37 assists.
Eisha Oden also had 7 kills with a hitting percentage of .700 as well as three blocks.
The first set was tied 21-21, but the Mustangs won the final four rallies to take the first 25-21.
Sarah Parker and
Kaylee Burmeister each had 5 kills in the opening set.
The Mustangs followed up with a dominant second set in which they never trailed, winning 25-17 to go up 2-0.
Wayne State kept the third set close, but the Mustangs were able to hold off the Wildcats for the 3-0 sweep.
The win moves SMSU to 7-3 (1-1 NSIC) overall on the season while Wayne State drops to 9-1 (1-1 NSIC) after its first loss of the year.
The Mustangs will continue their conference schedule on Tuesday when they host Sioux Falls at 7 p.m. in the PE Gym.
