BISMARK, N.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team cruised to a win in a four sets over the University of Mary on the road Friday night, 23-25, 25-11, 25-11, 25-17.
Taylor Reiss had a fourth straight double double double with 23 kills, 12 digs, and also added four blocks and one service ace to help SMSU improve to 9-3 on the season and 3-1 in NSIC play.
Sarah Parker added 10 kills and led SMSU with 6 blocks while
Eisha Oden also reached double figures in kills (11)
The Mustangs had a tough first set, dropping just their second opening set of the year 23-25, but rebounded well by winning both the second and third set by the score of 25-11. U-Mary hit just .107 for the match and suffered from 16 hitting errors in the second and third sets combined.
SMSU won the fourth set comfortably and never trailed finishing off U-Mary 25-17.
The Mustangs continued an impressive year of hitting efficiency finishing with a .394 hitting percentage as a team. Defensively, five different Mustangs finished with double figures in digs including 18 digs from
Kaylee Burmeister, who finished just one kill shy of also recording a double double.
SMSU libero,
Amber Messner, led the Mustangs with 19 digs and also recorded two service aces. Setter,
Megan Larson, had 49 assists and 12 digs as the Mustangs won their second consecutive road match.
Southwest Minnesota State University will now head to Minot, N.D. to face Minot State Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
