WICHITA, Kan. – The Southwest Minnesota State University wheelchair basketball team returned to action this past weekend finishing with a 1-3 record against four strong teams in Wichita.
On Friday morning, SMSU dropped an 80-47 contest to UT-Arlington.
Walter Johnson was the only Mustang to score in double figures as he poured in 27 points on 12 of 26 shooting. SMSU committed 19 turnovers in the setback.
SMSU would then fall, 57-42 to Edinboro (Pa.), in which the Mustangs shot just 36 percent from the field. Johnson had 32 points and 12 rebounds to lead the way for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs closed the day with a 73-47 victory over Auburn. Johnson scored a team-high 22 points with 13 rebounds and eight assists, while
Ryan Kile added 19 points on 8 of 12 shooting. Jon Herdon chipped in with 18 points and connected on the team's lone 3-pointer.
SMSU closed the weekend on Saturday morning with a 69-57 loss to Alabama. Johnson (22), Kile (16) and Zeke Ramudzi (11) all scored in double figures to pace the Mustangs. Herdon dished out a team-high nine assists, while Johnson grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
SMSU (12-7) returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 28, hosting the Minnesota Rolling Timberwolves for a pair of games in the PE Gym starting at 2 p.m.
