Mustangs begin stretch of home games vs. CSP and MSU this weekend

MARSHALL, Minn.- The Southwest Minnesota State University ­women's basketball team (2-14, 2-10 NSIC) enter a stretch of four straight home games as they host Concordia-St. Paul (11-7, 7-5 NSIC) on Friday night at 6 p.m., and Minnesota State on Saturday night at 5 p.m.
 
            BROADCAST INFO
•This weekend's games will broadcast on 105.1 FM KARL with Ryan Rohlik and Anthony Rohlik handling the play-by-play for SMSU basketball
•The game can also be viewed online at SMSUmustangs.com.
           
            SERIES HISTORY (Concordia-St. Paul)
•Concordia-St. Paul leads the all-time series with SMSU, 16-34
•Concordia-St. Paul has won nine straight games
•SMSU's last win was in December of 2011 (one of just two wins vs. CSP since the 2001-02 season
•CSP won the last meeting, 68-59, in St. Paul (2/19/16) finishing 2-0 vs. SMSU last season

            SERIES HISTORY (Minnesota State)
•Minnesota State leads the all-time series 37-17
•MSU has won 19 consecutive overall and nine straight games played in Marshall
•The Mavericks won the last meeting, 79-63, in Mankato (2/20/16) going 2-0 vs. SMSU last season

            GAME DAY STORYLINES
•SMSU snapped an eight game losing skid with its win over Minnesota Crookston last Friday night
•After a slow start to its season, SMSU's offense has been steadily improving, rasing its season scoring average in six straight games
•SMSU averaged 70.5 points per game and a plus 7.5 rebounding average last weekend
•The Mustangs got to the free throw line for a season high 29 free throw attempts
Taylor Holicky led Mustangs in scoring with a career high 22 points vs. UMC and followed up with another team high 17 points vs. BSU
•SMSU has committed the fifth fewest fouls in all of NCAA Division II
 
            SMSU HEAD COACH TOM WEBB
Tom Webb is in his first season as the head coach with a 2-14 overall record thus far
•Webb is the eighth head coach in the program's history
• Prior to SMSU, coach Webb spent eight seasons (2008-16) as the head coach at Cameron University (Okla.) compiling a record of 91-123.
• Webb was recognized as the Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year in 2014-15

Lauren Hedlund is second in the NSIC in rebounding with 10.3 rpg and 53 offensive boards
•Holicky is tied for fifth with 9.1 rpg

            ABOUT SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE
•SMSU is 2-14 on the season following last Saturday's loss at Bemidji State
•SMSU has an average scoring margin of minus 14.4 points per game
•The Mustangs are shooting 39 percent as a team on field goal attempts this season
Lauren Hedlund leads the team in scoring (12.2 ppg)  and rebounding (9.8 rpg)
