MARSHALL, Minn.- Southwest Minnesota State (17-1, 9-1 NSIC) came out on fire finishing the first set with a .600 hitting percentage while holding Minot State (4-15, 0-10 NSIC) to four kills in the first set of a 25-7, 25-13, 25-12 sweep for the Mustangs on Friday night in the PE Gym.
SMSUÂ would finish the match with a .413 attack percentage as a team while Minot State's offense struggled throughout the match finishing with a .000 hitting percentage on the night. The Mustangs held Minot State to a -.069 in the final set of the match as Minot State would finish the match with just 13 total kills as a team.
Taylor Reiss finished with 15 kills and a hitting percentage of .625 while falling just one dig shy of a double-double. Sarina Smith finished with 12 kills and a .688 attack percentage while also adding three block assists.
Jenna Walczak saw action in two sets on the night and tallied a career high eight kills on 13 attacks while
Caedyn Reinhardt also had a career high with eight kills.
Mustangs' libero,
Dani Potter, finished with 10 digs on the night while also notching six assists to help the SMSU attack.
Megan Larson finished the night with 41 assists and added three kills including the final point of the match to end the third set.
The Mustangs, coming off of their first loss of the season last weekend, came out strong taking a 14-4 lead off of a 5-0 SMSU run. SMSUÂ ended the first set with a 9-0 run, going ahead by one set with a 25-7 win.
SMSUÂ controlled the second set from the start as well jumping ahead 11-1. The Mustangs took their two set lead closing the second set on a 7-1 run. SMSUÂ trailed early in the third set but jumped ahead 16-5 on an 8-1 run and cruised to the sweep in a match that lasted just over one hour.
The Mustangs will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they host U-Mary at 2 p.m., in the PE Gym.
