DULUTH, Minn.- Just 74 seconds after
Amanda Hartmann scored a second half equalizer for Southwest Minnesota State, Minnesota Duluth found the net for its second goal of the day and scored again late to defeat SMSU, 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at the James S. Malosky Stadium.
Erika Hjort got the scoring started for Minnesota Duluth, scoring off of a corner kick in the 27th minute to put the Bulldogs ahead, 1-0.
Minnesota Duluth found more room to create chances in the first half as it finished with a 13-5 advantage in shots in the first 45 minutes.
In just under 12 minutes after the teams came out of the halftime break, Hartmann found the net for SMSU on a goal that was assisted by
Morgan Darner to even the score at 1-1.
Less than two minutes later, the Bulldogs pulled back ahead on a goal from Carey Madison to make the score, 2-1.
SMSU created just four shots total in the second half including Hartmann's goal and were unable to even the match a second time as Minnesota Duluth put the game away with an 82nd minute goal to make its lead, 3-1.
The Mustangs will face a quick turnaround as they travel to play at St. Cloud State tomorrow afternoon beginning at 2 p.m.
