MARSHALL, Minn.- Southwest Minnesota State won a pair of home games over Nebraska-Omaha to kick off the 2017-18 season on Friday night in the R/A Facility.
The Mustangs took a 54-52 lead with just under six minutes to play in game one and went ahead by as many as six in the final minutes as SMSUÂ held onto its lead for a 65-62 win in its season opener.
Jesus Villa scored a game high 31 points in the win while senior,
Ryan Kile, added 20 points while shooting 71 percent from the floor.
SMSU lead by as many as 18 points in game two, going 26-of-57 (46 percent) shooting as a team in a 57-47 win.
Ryan Kile led the Mustangs with 18 points on 8 of 11 shooting while Villa added 15 points in addition to a team high nine rebounds. Freshman
Matthew Talbot scored 12 points with three rebounds in game two for SMSU.
The Mustangs will return to action on Nov. 17-18 at the Wisconsin-Whitewater Tournament where they will face five opponents in two days.
