MOORHEAD, Minn.- No. 1 Southwest Minnesota State (16-0, 8-0 NSIC) had eight blocks as a team and held MSU Moorhead (7-9, 2-6 NSIC) to a .105 hitting percentage in a 25-22, 25-9, 25-18 sweep to remain unbeaten on Friday night in the Alex Nemzek Hall.
Kaylee Burmeister finished with 14 kills and seven digs with a .385 hitting percentage in the match while
Taylor Reiss added 11 kills with nine digs.
Brooke Borchardt added another six kills for SMSU and finished the night with a match high six block assists.
Sarina Smith finished the night with nine kills and added one block assist.
Mustangs' libero,
Dani Potter, had a season high 16 digs on the night and
Megan Larson tallied 36 assists in addition to eight digs and four kills.
After finishing with a .174 hitting percentage in the first set, which the Mustangs won 25-22, SMSU hit .522 in the second while holding MSU Moorhead to .034. SMSU never trailed in the second set leading by as much as 21-6.
The Dragons would hit just .111 in the third set as SMSU would pull away from a 10-10 tie to win the set 25-18 and sweep its ninth match of the season.
The Mustangs have now won 19 of 20 matches over the Dragons and are now three wins shy of tying the school record for longest win streak in SMSU history.
SMSU will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they play at No. 13 Northern State beginning at 2 p.m.
