MARSHALL, Minn. -- Southwest Minnesota State opened its 2017-18 season on Friday night with a 104-66 exhibition game victory over Division II ISt. Olaf College on Friday night at the R/A Facility.

Michael Lee led four Mustangs in double figures with 20 points on 7 of 10 shooting with six 3-pointers. KJ Davis added 16 points, four rebounds and three assists, while Carter Kirk chipped in with 14 points and seven rebounds. Taylor Schafer came off the bench to score 11 points on 5 of 6 shooting.
 
SMSU closed the game shooting 64 percent (42 of 66) from the field and held a 40-26 rebound advantage. SMSU finished 11 of 22 from 3-point range.
 
St. Olaf shot 37 percent (23 of 63) from the field, including 4 of 22 from 3-point range.
 
The game was tied at 13 with 16:32 left in the first half before using a 27-4 run to build a 40-17 lead at the 9:33 mark. SMSU held a 56-31 lead at halftime, shooting 64 percent from the field.
 
Southwest Minnesota State, ranked No. 15 in the country, opens the regular season next Friday, Nov. 10, facing Fort Hays State (Kan.) in Emporia, Kansas. SMSU will also face Emporia State on Saturday, Nov. 11.
