SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- Southwest Minnesota State finished with a 3-1 record on Saturday in the Augustana Duals with wins over Northwestern (Iowa), Morningside (Iowa) and Drury (Mo.) and one lone setback against No. 23 Nebraska-Kearney.

Southwest Minnesota State had four wins by decision in the first five bouts against Northwestern and eventually won by tie breaker to begin the day at the Augustana Duals.
Taylor Curtis (125),
Brock Buysse (133),
Cortez Arredondo (149) and
Justin Haneke (157) each picked up wins to help SMSU build a 12-3 lead before Northwestern came storming back with four straight wins to take an 18-12 lead.
After falling behind by six after a Northwestern pin in the previous bout,
Andrew Petersen capped off the match with a win by fall over Skyler Bonestroo at 3:59.
The Mustangs' 54-48 advantage in team points gave them the win by tie breaker in the first of four matches on the day.
SMSU now takes on Morningside (Iowa) in its second match of the day from Augustana University.

Griffin Osing (174) and
Andrew Petersen each pinned their opponents while
Ben Thompson won by forfeit to help SMSU to a 24-15 win over Morningside in the Mustangs' second of two matches on Saturday.
Justin Haneke (157) and
Brock Buysse (133) each posted wins to help SMSU to a second straight win to start the day.

SMSU vs No. 23 Nebraska-Kearney
Southwest Minnesota State wrestled its second consecutive ranked opponent of the early season as Nebraska-Kearney handed SMSU a 34-3 loss, its first loss at the Augustana Duals.
Nebraska-Kearney won the first four bouts of the day, including a major decision at 141. The Lopers later tallied another major decision, one tech fall and one pin to give the Mustangs their first win of the day.

The Mustangs got off to a quick start as
Taylor Curtis and
Brock Buysse each won by fall in the first two bouts which was then followed by a major decision by
Jordan Biehn as Southwest Minnesota State defeated Drury (Iowa), 38-3 in its final match of the day on Saturday.
SMSU won the first six bouts and dropped just one weight class to conclude the Augustana Duals.
Ben Thompson also won by fall at 197 and
Andrew Petersen posted a major decision at 285 as the Mustangs finished the day 3-1 against their four non-conference opponents.
