CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Southwest Minnesota State University wheelchair basketball team recently won two of three games at the University of Illinois Tournament.
On Friday, SMSU earned a 54-39 win over Arizona State and then closed the weekend with a split on Saturday, defeating Auburn University 63-54, before dropping a 58-52 contest in overtime to Edinboro University.
In the win over ASU,
David Evjen led the Mustangs with a team-high 23 points and also grabbed 19 rebounds.
Walter Johnson added 21 points and 11 rebounds, while dishing out four assists.
Ryan Kile chipped in with six points and three rebounds. SMSU finished the game shooting 33 percent from the field.
Johnson had a huge game versus Auburn, pouring in 33 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Evjen added 18 points and 16 rebounds. SMSU shot an outstanding 46 percent from the field.
In the setback to Edinboro, Evjen led the team with 25 points, while Johnson added 17.
Ezekiel Ramudzi connected on 5 of 11 shots to finish with 10 points.
SMSU (16-8) concludes the regular season this Saturday with a 3 p.m. match-up versus the Minnesota Rolling Timberwolves, before facing Nebraska-Omaha at 6 p.m. Both games will take place in the PE Gym.
