WINONA, Minn.- Southwest Minnesota State was swept in a doubleheader at Winona State on Saturday afternoon losing game one, 2-1 followed by a 4-1 loss in game two.

Alex O'Connor suffered the loss despite pitching six innings from the circle while giving up just six hits. The Mustangs' leader in ERA, O'Connor gave up just two earned runs which both came in the first inning. O'Connor gave up only three hits the rest of the way after giving up three in the first.
Mackenzie Clouse went 2 for 3 from the plate with the lone RBI of the game for SMSU.
The first two batters of the afternoon for Winona State reached on a single followed by a bunt single and both came around to score following a walk and another single through the right side. After one runner was thrown out advancing to third, O'Connor escaped the inning with a strikeout and a pop up to second.
Emma Grote singled to lead off the top of the fourth inning and would come around to score the only run for SMSU following two more singles and a throwing error. The Mustangs would leave two runners on base in the inning.
Clouse would reach base again on an error in the top of the seventh but SMSU was unable to push the tying run across.

For a second straight game, Winona State scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, this time with the help of one hit by pitch, three walks, a throwing error and a passed ball. The Warriors took the 2-0 lead with no hits in the inning.
Taylor Koloc notched her team leading third home run of the year and gave SMSU its only run of the game.
Athena Golling suffered the loss from the circle as SMSU used all four pitchers on its roster during game two.
SMSU failed to take advantage of two extra base hits in the second and third innings stranding six total base runners in the first through fourth innings.
Winona State doubled its lead in the bottom of the fourth scoring both runs on a single up the middle. The Warriors had four total hits in the fourth and left two on base following a double play that ended the inning.
SMSU would find just two hits in the final three innings scoring its only run off of Koloc's solo home run in the seventh.
The Mustangs will continue their road trip with a doubleheader at Upper Iowa tomorrow beginning at 12 p.m.
