WICHITA, Kan. -- The Southwest Minnesota State University wheelchair basketball team lost all four games in two days at the Wichita Tournament this past Friday and Saturday. The Mustangs have dropped eight straight games and fall to 4-11 overall.
On Friday, SMSU lost to Missouri, 67-43, before losing a tight, 64-61 contest to Edinboro (Pa.) On Saturday, the Mustangs dropped a 93-52 decision to Texas-Arlington, before closing the weekend with a 67-51 setback to Alabama.
In the Missouri game,
Matthew Talbot scored a team-high 18 points for the Mustangs on 8 of 14 shooting.
Ryan Kile and
Jesus Villa each added eight points. SMSU finished the game shooting 45 percent from the field.
In the close game versus Edinboro, Villa poured in 23 points on 9 of 19 shooting with a pair of 3-pointers. Talbot added 14 points with five rebounds, while
Jon Fagre pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
On Saturday, Villa paced the Mustangs with 24 points on 8 of 19 shooting and also made 7 of 11 free throws, in the loss to UTA. Fagre (11) and Kile (10) were the only other SMSU players to reach double figures in scoring.
In the loss to Alabama, Villa (16) and Talbot (15) led the way in scoring, while
Ezekiel Ramudzi chipped in with 10 points.
SMSU returns to action on Feb. 2-3 with a tournament in Omaha, Nebraska.
