Mustangs close home season with loss to Winona State

MARSHALL, Minn. –
The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team closed out its home season on Friday afternoon with a 3-0 loss to Winona State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play at the Schwan Regional Event Center.
 
WSU improves to 7-7-1 overall, 7-6-1 NSIC and keeps its hopes for qualifying for the NSIC Tournament next week. SMSU dropped its eighth straight game and is now 3-13 overall, 3-11 NSIC.
 
WSU broke a scoreless game with a pair of quick goals midway through the first half. Abby Bohanski opened the scoring off an assist from Melissa Greco in the 24th minute. Just moments later, Greco added an unassisted goal to extend the lead to 2-0.
 
Leading 2-0 at halftime, the Warriors added another goal in the 67th minute on a goal by Riley Harmon off a corner kick from Bohanski.
 
WSU finished with 20 shots, including 12 on goal, while SMSU closed the match with seven total shots, with six on net. Allie Cook and Emily Hofmann each had two shots on goal for the Mustangs.
 
Jenna Meyer started in goal for SMSU and made nine saves.
 
WSU held an 8-4 advantage on corner kicks.
 
Today was the final home game for SMSU seniors Morgan Darner, Katelyn Toner, Macy Violett and Emily Hofmann.
 
Southwest Minnesota State concludes the season on Sunday with a 12 p.m. match at Upper Iowa (3-12-2).
