OMAHA, Neb. – The Southwest Minnesota State University wheelchair basketball team finished 2-2 this past weekend at the Nebraska Omaha Tournament.
SMSU opened play on Friday with a 64-33 loss to Missouri, but bounced-back to earn a 66-58 victory later in the day over Nebraska Omaha.
SMSU started play on Saturday with a 72-54 victory over Madonna, before closing the weekend with a 77-45 loss to Missouri.
In the weekend opener versus Missouri, SMSU shot just 26 percent from the field.
Jesus Villa scored a team-high 14 points, while
Matthew Talbot added nine points.
Villa led the way in Friday's win over Omaha making 10 of 20 field goals with five 3-pointers for a team-high 29 points. Talbot shot 9 of 16 from the field and closed the game with 18 points, while
Ryan Kile chipped in with 12 points
In the win over Madonna, Talbot (26) and Villa (23) led the way in scoring for the Mustangs with Talbot connecting on 12 of 15 from the field. Fagre chipped in with 10 points to help the charge. Villa also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and had six assists and six steals.
In the weekend finale, SMSU was limited to 33 percent shooting from the field as Talbot scored a team-high 15 points. Villa (14) and Kile (10) also scored in double figures for the Mustangs.
Southwest Minnesota State is 6-13 on the season and returns to action this Friday and Saturday with four games at the University of Illinois Tournament in Champaign.
