WAYNE, Neb.- Wayne State forced 23 Southwest Minnesota State turnovers as the SMSU trailed by just four at halftime before eventually falling, 78-55 on Friday night in the Rice Auditorium.
Sadie Stelter got the start at point guard and led SMSU in scoring with 12 points whileÂ
Caleigh Rodning had a 4 of 11 shooting night with 10 points.
Abuk Akoi was just 2 of 7 shooting on the night but led SMUS in rebounding with seven total boards.
Southwest Minnesota State shot a combined 11 of 22 (50 percent) in the first half before going just 7 of 27 (26 percent) from the floor as a team in second half.
Wayne State improved offensively as the game went along shooting just 5 of 17 (29 percent) in the first quarter compared with a combined 48 percent (19 of 40) over the final three quarters.
SMSUÂ struggled with turnovers early, giving up 13 first half possessions. WSC would finish the game with a 23-3 advantage in points off of turnovers.
The Wildcats struggled to find a rhythm offensively as well in the first half as well however, shooting just 37 percent overall and just 2 of 9 (22 percent) from deep in the opening 20 minutes.
The Wildcats eventually found their shooting stroke, knocking down six second-half 3-pointers to help outscore SMSU 46-27 in the second half. Wayne State's depth shined as the Wildcats held a 31-16 advantage in bench points during the win.
