PENSACOLA, Fla. - The No. 2 ranked Southwest Minnesota State (1-1) volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 7 West Florida (2-0) in a battle on Friday night at the West Florida Invitational at the Ross Center at Pensacola Community College.

SMSU lost 20-25, 22-25, 25-23, 24-26 as UWF maintained an undefeated day at the Invitational.

Taylor Reiss delivered a match-high 24 kills although SMSU was unable to stop UWF. Â
Kaylee Burmeister and
Sarina Smith also pieced together 13 and 12 kills each. Reiss finished with 16 digs, while freshman
Sydney Omtvedt added 12 digs for the Mustang defense.

Emma Thomssen added 54 assists in the match although the Mustangs fall short as the Agronouts came out strong hitting .379 in the first set.

Throughout the match, the score was tied 17 times, 11 of those generating from the fourth set as the Mustangs attempted to rally.

SMSU resumes action on Saturday at 2 p.m. versus Regis (Colo.) at the UWF Fieldhouse and again at 7 p.m. versus Wheeling Jesuit.
