Taylor Reiss was named the MVP of the all-tournament team recording 87 kills.
Emma Thomssen was also named to the all-tournament team as the tournament leader in assists dishing out 181 and holding the tournament high average of 12.07.

Mustangs opened the tournament with a win over Western Washington on Friday night. After two consecutive losses, the Mustangs came out strong to dominate No. 24 Wheeling Jesuit.

Angela Young came off the bench to record a career-high kills with 11 kills.

Young gave the Mustangs their largest lead in the first set delivering two consecutive kills to give the Mustangs an 11-8 advantage where the Mustangs maintained the lead for the remainder of the set.

The Mustangs dominated the second set led by the Mustang offense led by
Taylor Reiss, who recorded 15 kills in the match, while
Meg Schmidt and Young each finished with 11.

SMSU went on a 7-0 run in the third set to build a 21-9 advantage. The run was sparked by a kill from Schmidt paired by two service aces from
Erin Corrigan. Together, the Mustangs took the lead and never looked back.

Southwest Minnesota State ends the Invitational 2-2 as the team heads to the Colorado Premier Challenge beginning on Friday, Aug. 31, against Colorado Christian at 12 p.m. Ā
