MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-15) to Winona State tonight in a conference battle at the PE Gym.

SMSU drops to 8-4 overall, 3-1 NSIC while the WSU improves to 4-8, 1-3 NSIC.

SMSU's Taylor Reiss led the match with 18 kills, while Meg Schmidt added 10 kills. The Mustangs finished the night with a .100 hitting percentage with 26 hitting errors. The Warriors hit .214 led by Taylor Goar and Megan Flom, each with seven kills.

Bre Maloney dished out 22 assists for the Warriors while Emma Thomssen added 32 assists for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs took an early lead in the first set going up 4-1 led by three consecutive kills from the Mustangs, two from Reiss and by Caedyn Reinhardt. The Mustangs pushed the lead to 10-4 following back-to-back kills from Schmidt. The Warriors rallied to take the lead at 16-15 and never looked back to earn the set win..

In set two, SMSU fell behind 16-6, before rallying back to tie the set at 22-22, but the Warriors were able to take the set following three errors from the Mustangs. 

The third set was led by the Warriors match-high .292 hitting percentage to give the Warriors a 3-0 sweep.
 
Southwest Minnesota State hosts Upper Iowa tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the PE Gym to complete its three-match conference homestand.
