MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team fell to Northern State on Friday night at the Schwan Regional Event Center in its home opener of the season. SMSU (2-4, 2-2 NSIC) took an early lead, but fell 2-1 after NSU (4-2-1, 2-1-1 NSIC) scored two unanswered goals late in the second half.
Abbey Hoisington scored her third goal of the season in the eighth minute of the game, assisted by
Alli Miskowiec to take a 1-0 lead for the Mustangs.
The Wolves scored in the last 10 minutes of the game by Shianna Rosselli in the 81
st minute, her second of the season, and Darian Leschewski in the 89
th minute, her fourth of the season. Both goals were unassisted as the Wolves went to tie the game and take the lead in under 10 minutes.
Mustang goalkeeper,
Jessica Craigmile recorded five saves in all 90 minutes of regulation and goalkeeper for the Wolves, Lexie Montoya, also recorded five saves.
Abbey Hoisington led the Mustangs scoring the only goal with four shots, all on goal.
Southwest Minnesota State concludes the home opening weekend hosting MSU Moorhead on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Schwan Regional Event Center.
