SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team opened conference play Friday night with a 4-1 win over Sioux Falls at the USF Sports Complex. SMSU's four goals is its highest total since scoring four goals in a 4-1 win over Wayne State on Oct. 30, 2016.
Alli Miskowiec lead the Mustangs with her first career hat trick scoring three of the four goals of the night. Her first goal occurred in the fourth minute of the game, unassisted as she stole the pass from the goalie and found the net from 18 yards out.
Miskowiec's next two goals were both assisted by
Kaylee Burkett-Behun in the 54
th minute and the 58
th minute.
Abbey Hoisington added her first career goal in the 59
th minute, assisted from Miskowiec.
The Cougars scored in the 31
st minute from Aundria Vargas, her first goal of the season.
The Mustangs were dominate across the board, not only out-scoring the Cougars in the second half, but the Mustang defense kept them scoreless after their first goal. Goalkeeper
Jessica Craigmile played all 90 minutes and recorded 12 saves to give the Mustangs their first victory of the season.
Southwest Minnesota State travels to Sioux Falls next Friday, Sept. 14 to take on Augustana at 4 p.m. at Morstad Field.
