MARSHALL, Minn. – After falling into a four-match losing streak, the No. 12 Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team (12-6, 6-4 NSIC) returned home to bounce-back for a sweep Bemidji State (5-13, 2-8 NSIC) on Friday night in the PE Gym.
SMSU's
Angela Young led the Mustangs with a match-high 13 kills in the sweep (25-16, 25-21, 25-16) and to a .284 hitting percentage while holding the Beavers to a .130 mark.
The Mustangs were supported all-around offensively as
Zoe Lier added 12,
Jenna Walczak added 11 and
Lydia Sussner dropped a nine kills.
The Mustang offense, run through
Emma Thomssen who finished with 45 assists, had a match-high .350 to glide to 9-0 run to jump to a 20-12 lead to sail to the 25-16 set victory.
On the defensive end, by
Payton Hjerleid who finished 16 digs, followed by
Erin Corrigan and Young who ended with 15.
SMSU went on the board first in the second set with a kill from Walczak and never looked back to claim a 25-21 set victory as Walczak then finished the set with her seventh kill of the set

The Mustangs returned to the court in the third set as two service aces dealt by
Rachel Fink to aid a 5-0 run to gain a 12-6 lead gave the Mustangs the momentum needed to finished the match with a 25-16 third set victory.
SMSU (12-6, 6-4 NSIC) returns to host Minnesota Crookston tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the PE Gym.
