MARSHALL, Minn. -- The Southwest Minnesota State wheelchair basketball team finished its opening four-game weekend with a 2-2 record inside the R/A Facility.
SMSU opened play on Friday with a 56-36 victory over Nebraska Omaha, before dropping a hard-fought 66-63 battle to defending national runner-up Wisconsin-Whitewater.
On Saturday, SMSU lost 69-65 in double overtime, before finishing the weekend with a 73-45 win over Omaha.
In Friday's win over UNO,
Walter Johnson scored a game-high 26 points with teammate
Jesus Villa adding 12 points. The Mustangs shot 50 percent in the victory.
In the loss to UWW, Villa scored 23 points and added seven rebounds with Johnson adding 22 points and nine rebounds.
In Saturday's loss to Missouri, Johnson made 13 of 27 field goals and poured in 32 points with Villa adding 19 points with three 3-pointers.
The final game of the tournament, four Mustangs reached double figures with Villa scoring a team-high 17 points, while Villa (12),
Ryan Kile (12) and
Ezekiel Ramudzi (10) also reached double figures.
