WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Southwest Minnesota State softball team kept with Rollins until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Tars jumped to a 2-0 lead for the sweep over SMSU in the opening day of the spring break trip in Florida.

SMSU (4-2) looked to avenge a 9-4 loss earlier in the evening with a solo-hit and one runner left on base in the top of the first but was unable to bring a run in.Â

SMSU finished with five hits, one error and eight runners left on base.

The Mustangs attempted to go on the board in the top of 2 with bases loaded with one out. SMSU stranded all three as
Madysson Schliinz and
Bailey Johnson both struck out.

The defense by SMSU was what held Rollins (19-4) to remain scoreless in the bottom of the fourth. Once again,
Athena Golling evaded trouble as Rollins placed runners on third and second with one out. Golling struck out the next batter followed by a diving catch by right fielder
Lileya Kebos would end the fourth unscathed.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Mustangs let one through on a single and an error in the field for a 1-0 lead with one out.
The Tars weren't done as they singled up the middle to bring another in for another run to end the sixth with a 2-0 lead.

Golling (2-1) took to the circle for her third start of the season to record three strikeouts.

Southwest Minnesota State will continue the spring break trip tomorrow with a double header at Florida Tech at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. CDT.
