WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Southwest Minnesota State jumped to an early lead but couldn't keep with Rollins hot offense late in the bottom of the sixth as Rollins strung together runs to earn a 9-4 victory over SMSU in Winter Park, Florida to start SMSU's spring trip.
SMSU, now 4-1, was led by catcher
Madison Krog who went 2 of 4 at the plate. Rollins improved to 18-4 overall in the game one victory.Â

The game was scoreless until the top of the third when Krog doubled to get on base.
Kaylee Hentges tripled down the right line to score Krog and put SMSU on the board.

Hentges then followed in on a throwing error by the catcher.

The Mustangs maintained momentum in the fifth with a two-run homerun from
Kali Tomlinson to score Grote. SMSU took a 4-0 lead before the Tars responded in the bottom of the inning.

Rollins strung together three runs off three hits and a fielding error to close the gap to 4-3.

The Mustangs looked to regain a larger margin as
Lileya Kebos and Madyson Schliinz walked to open the sixth. Both advance on base by a single from Grote, but Kebos would get tagged out at home to stall potential scoring for the inning.

Makayla Hoselton took to the circle to open the bottom of the sixth. The Tars strung together six runs off four hits, one sac fly, and an error in the field to lead 9-4 heading into the final inning.

Hoselton, now 0-1, threw one inning while
Megan Cull went five with four strikeouts.

Southwest Minnesota State will face Rollins immediately following game 1 on Sunday night.
