Box Score

MARSHALL, Minn.
– The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team (2-1, 0-1 NSIC) suffered its first loss of the season in the conference opener, with a 3-1 loss to Augustana (3-1, 1-0 NSIC), despite an early lead on Friday night at the Schwan Regional Event Center.

Tonight's loss was the first for the Mustangs who went 2-0 in nonconference play to open the season, while the Vikings improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

SMSU jumped to an early lead with a goal from Alli Miskowiec, her first of the season, assisted by Alex Lotts, in the 11th minute. Miskowiec also led the team in shots on goal with three.

The Mustangs would lead until under ten minutes remaining when Augie's Jensen Froehlich would break away down the middle of the field to go one-on-one with SMSU's goalkeeper, Amanda Haimes, to score the Vikings first goal of the game, assisted by Claire Dahm. Haimes (2-1) recorded two saves on the night.

Froehlich's goal would send the game into halftime locked at 1-1.

In the second half, the Vikings would utilize a three-minute span of offensive plays to score not once, but twice, to secure the victory.  In the 58th minute, Froehlich returned to score her second goal of the game, assisted by Morgan Moe to take a 2-1 lead. In the 60th minute, Ally Young would connect with a pass from Josie Arduser to secure a 3-1 victory.

The Mustangs maintained momentum and looked to attack the goal in the remainder of the half, but the Vikings defense remained steadfast. Augie's goalkeeper, Claudia Pueschner, earned the victory between the posts, improving to a 3-1 record, and had five saves on the night.

SMSU even drew a penalty as Abbey Hoisington drove into the penalty box to draw the foul but Pueschner deflected the penalty kick from Olivia Harriger.

Augie out-shot SMSU 13-to-9, despite SMSU recorded six shots on goal whereas Augie recorded five.

Southwest Minnesota State will host Wayne State on Sunday at 1 p.m. for Parent's Day recognition at the Schwan Regional Event Center.
