MOORHEAD, Minn. –The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team (2-3, 2-2 NSIC) finished the weekend 2-0 with a 24-15 victory over MSU Moorhead (0-3, 0-2 NSIC) on Saturday afternoon in Nemzek Hall. 
 
This was the first back-to-back conference victories for the Mustangs since the 2016-17 season when the Mustangs defeated Minot State and UMary. 
 
The Mustangs started the dual off with a 6-0 lead as Justin Sampson (141) earned a victory by fall at 6:32 over MSUM's Mason Schultz. 
 
The Dragons picked up the next four bouts before Cole Hennen (184) broke up the streak with a 9-3 decision over Mitchell Kotschevar.
 
Jackson Ryan piggy-backed on Hennen's momentum to complete a 3-1 decision victory in overtime to tie the dual at 12-12. 
 
MSUM claimed one more victory at 285 to take an 18-15 lead but the Dragons would be shutout by the likes of Hunter Pfantz (125) and Jackson Stauffacher (133) who finished the bout with two wins by fall. 
 
Pfantz secured his victory at 4:50 over Cameron Williams and Stauffacher dominated the bout, earning his victory at 54 seconds. 
 
Southwest Minnesota State returns to the mat next Saturday hosting Minnesota State at 2 p.m. in the PE Gym.
