Warriors pour in season-high 3-pointers for victory over Mustangs

WINONA, Minn. –
An early start extended by a season-high 3-pointers for Winona State (16-8,12-8 NSIC) would earn a 86-63 victory over Southwest Minnesota State (14-11, 9-11 NSIC) on Saturday afternoon in McCown Gymnasium. 
 
The Mustangs were limited to 38 percent shooting from the field (22-of-58) and 33 percent shooting from the 3-point line (8-of-24) while the Warriors knocked down 53 percent shooting from the field (32-of-61) and went 50 percent from the 3-point line (14-of-28).
 
The Mustangs were led by Erin Baxter, who came off the bench to lead in scoring with 12 points. Sadie Stelter finished with nine points while Sara Teske added eight. Abuk Akoi led in rebounding with a team-high five boards.
 
The Warriors started the game off to a 9-0 lead to open the game and finished the first quarter on 10-of-16 shooting, to finish with a 23-14 lead after the first complete. 
 
SMSU's bench picked up contribution with 20 points in the second quarter to cut 41-28 heading into half. 
 
WSU poured in a season-high 14 3-pointers to extend their lead in the second half, led by Allie Pickrain who finished with 23 points and a game-high seven 3-pointers. 
 
Southwest Minnesota State returns home for the final regular conference weekend of the 2019-20 season, facing Augustana and Wayne State in the R/A Facility next Friday and Saturday.
