MARSHALL, Minn.- The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team (3-7-1 overall, 2-6-1 NSIC) started its weekend on a high note, defeating MSU Moorhead (0-12, 0-9) 2-0 at the Schwan Regional Event Center on Friday afternoon.
Abbey Hoisington led the charge for the Mustangs, netting both goals en route to victory. It is her first multi-goal game since Sept. 28, 2018, and is the first multi-goal game by the Mustangs since an Alli Miskowiec hat-trick on Oct. 25, 2019 that saw Hoisington collect a pair of assists
The game played to a draw in the first half, with goalkeeper
Meghan Harkin collecting the a save on MSU Moorhead's only shot of the game before going down with an injury. Keeper
Julianne Arballo would play over 71 minutes in net for the Mustangs, recording her first career victory.
The score was all square at 0-0 before
Emily Maciel was able to find Hoisington near the left post, and Hoisington would go bar down on MSUM to net the opener in the 72
nd minute.
Hoisington would put the game out of reach in the 90
th minute, as a
Taylor Tabacco clearance snuck past the MSUM defense and to the foot of Hoisington, who would take a sliding shot just past the MSUM keeper and into the left corner.
SMSU outshot MSUM 13-1 on the game, with seven shots on net against the lone SOG from MSUM.
Southwest Minnesota State returns home to face Northern State on Sunday, Oct. 17, at 1 p.m. at Mattke Field at the Schwan Regional Event Center.
