WEST FARGO, N.D. – The first day of the 2021 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championship is complete with Southwest Minnesota State earning 26 points and currently in eighth place at the nine-team championship.
The four-day championship is being hosted by MSU Moorhead and held inside the Hulbert Aquatic Center.
A total of four event finals took place on Wednesday night with Minnesota State leading the championship with 211 points. Sioux Falls is in second place with 167.5 points, followed by two-time defending champion St. Cloud State in third place with 148.5 points. SMSU trails seventh place Northern State by two points and sixth place MSU Moorhead by 14 points.
SMSU had several individuals and two relay teams compete in the prelims and finals on Wednesday.
Natalie Bohnert finished with a time of 2:12.01 in the prelims of the 200-yard IM, before recording a time of 2:10.66 in the "B" finals to finish 12th overall and earn five team points.
Kendyl Near also competed in the 200-yard IM and earned a time of 2:14.59 in the prelims, before finishing 27th overall with a time of 2:16:43 in the "C" finals.
Annika Freiburger placed 14th overall in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:03.92 to register three team points.
MacKenzie Kallevig finished at 25.13 in the 50-yard freestyle to advance to the "C" finals before placing 24th overall with a time of 25.06.
SMSU had two teams compete in the 200-yard medley with
Abbie Christensen,
Addi Schroeder, Bohnert and Kallevig picking up 10 team points with a 12th place finish of 1:52.85. The team of
Sarynn Patterson, Freiburger,
Gabriela Reis and
Maija Geier earned six points with a time of 1:53.82 to finish in 14th place.
Day two of the championship on Thursday start with prelims at 10 a.m. with the finals beginning at 5:30 p.m. Thursday will feature the 200 freestyle relay, the 400 IM, the 100 butterfly, the 200 freestyle, the one-meter diving competition and the 400 medley relay.
The top three finalists in each individual event and top two finalists in each relay event will be recognized as NSIC All-Conference during the meet.
