TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Auburn University scored the game-winning field goal with five seconds remaining to rally past Southwest Minnesota State, 64-62, in the third place game of the National Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball Tournament on the campus of the University of Alabama.
SMSU, which led for much of the game, including holding an 11-point lead in the first half, finished the tournament with a 1-2 record.
Walter Johnson paced the Mustangs on Saturday making 15 of 28 field goals to finish with 34 points.
Nicholas Herrington added 13 points for the Mustangs, while
Genaro Perez and
Ezekiel Ramudzi each scored six points.
SMSU finished the game shooting 59 percent from the field.
UT-Arlington, which slipped past SMSU in Friday's semifinals, defeated Alabama, 66-51 to claim the national championship.
