MARSHALL, Minn. – Minot State scored the game-winning goal with less than two minutes remaining in the game to rally for a 2-1 victory over Southwest Minnesota State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's soccer on Friday afternoon at the Schwan Regional Event Center.
MISU, which improves to 4-2 overall, 3-0 NSIC, snapped the tie in the 89
th minute as Chloe Allen scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
SMSU, which dropped its fourth straight one-goal loss, falls to 1-4 overall, 0-3 NSIC.
MISU closed the game with 14 shots with eight on goal, while SMSU had 13 shots with seven on goal.
SMSU opened the scoring in the 13
th minute as
Abbey Hoisington buried her first goal of the season off a great pass from
Selena Prolic.
SMSU held the 1-0 lead into the halftime break, but MISU was able to answer and tie the score in the second half as Sofia Lewis weaved through the Mustang defense to score her third of the season in the 57
th minute.
Hoisington led the Mustang offense with three shots on goal, while Prolic,
Kirsten Wetterstrom,
Madi Foutz and
Kylie Birath each had one shot on goal.
Meghan Harkin had six saves for the Mustangs in goal.
Southwest Minnesota State continues the weekend at home taking on UMary on Sunday starting at 1 p.m. at the Schwan Regional Event Center.
