ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team rallied with a goal in the 76
th minutes to salvage a 2-2 tie with Northern State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action on Sunday afternoon at the NSU Athletic & Recreation Fields.
Haley Mason netted the tying goal for the Mustangs off a pass from
Sandra Kraling. It was Mason's second goal of the season and the first career assist for Kraling.
SMSU is now 1-5-7 overall, 1-5-4 in NSIC play. NSU pushes its record to 6-3-4 overall, 4-2-4 NSIC.
For the sixth game in a row SMSU netted the game's first goal as
Alex Lotts scored her team-high fifth of the season on an assist from Mason in the 19th minute.
SMSU maintained the lead into the halftime break but NSU rallied with goals in the 49
th and 61
st minute to build a 2-1 lead.
Rachel Hicks started in goal for the Mustangs and made six saves.
NSU closed the game with 14 shots, with eight on goal, while SMSU registered nine shots with six on goal.
Abbey Hoisington and
Kirsten Wetterstrom each had a pair of shots in the game for the Mustangs.
SMSU returns home next weekend for a pair of games at The Schwan Regional Event Center. The Mustangs face defending NSIC champion Bemidji State on Friday, Oct. 14, starting at 3 p.m. and then take on Minnesota Crookston on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 1 p.m.
