WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Southwest Minnesota State University wheelchair basketball returned to the court for the first time in two months this past weekend losing four games at the two-day University of Missouri Tournament.
SMSU opened play on Friday with a 72-60 loss to the Auburn University, before suffering an 79-42 loss to UT Arlington. The Mustangs closed the tournament on Saturday losing to the University of Missouri 81-65, before suffering an 83-56 setback to UT Arlington.
In the first game versus Auburn,
Walter Johnson paced the Mustangs wit 30 points on 12 of 19 shooting, while
Emmanuel Fuentes Cervantes, playing in his first game for SMSU, added 15 points on 7 of 12 shooting.
In the first loss to UT-Arlington, Johnson scored 17 points with Fuentes Cervantes chipping in with 12.
Darius Jackson would add five points with
Jeremy Tantsits scored four points.
In Saturday's first game versus Missouri, Johnson made 13 of 21 field goals for 32 points, while
Troy Beckford scored 13 points with one 3-pointer.
In the second game to UTA, Johnson poured in 32 points with 12 field goals, which included a pair of 3-pointers. Fuentes Cervantes had a 3-pointers and finished the game with 13 points.
Southwest Minnesota State returns to the court on Feb. 11-12 with three games in Champaign, Ill.
