TUCSON, Ariz. – The Southwest Minnesota State wheelchair basketball team closed out a successful two days in the state of Arizona on Saturday afternoon earning a come-from-behind 69-67 victory over the University of Arizona to finish with three victories in four games.
SMSU opened play on Friday afternoon earning a forfeit victory over Wisconsin-Whitewater due to UWW playing with an illegal line-up.
SMSU would then face Arizona and suffered a 63-60 setback despite a game-high 19 points from
Emmanuel Fuentes Cervantes.
Walter Johnson (12) and
Nicholas Herrington (11) also scored in double figures, while
Genaro Perez chipped in with eight points.
The Mustangs closed a busy Friday with a 45-21 victory over Eastern Washington. Fuentes Cervantes scored 10 points to pace SMSU, while
Darius Jackson scored five points.

Will Glendenning, Johnson and Perez all added four points each.
In Saturday's rematch versus Arizona, the Mustangs trailed by 15 at halftime, but rallied back behind 28 points from Fuentes Cervantes and 23 from Johnson. Fuentes Cervantes connected on 13 of 25 field goal, while Johnson made 10 of 20 from the field. Serafin came through with eight points, while Herrington added six points.
SMSU, 9-10 overall, is scheduled to return home for its final two regular season home games on March 5 taking on Nebraska-Omaha in a doubleheader. SMSU will then compete at the NIWBT Championships in Arlington, Texas, on March 17-19.
