MARSHALL, Minn.- The Southwest Minnesota State women's basketball team (6-2 overall, 3-1 NSIC) would benefit from another disruptive game from
Abuk Akoi and a career-scoring game from
Hannah Parsley to defeat Concordia-St. Paul (14-7, 10-7) 94-85 in double overtime in an NSIC clash inside the R/A Facility on Saturday afternoon. Â

Akoi would finish the game with 15 points, nine rebounds, eight blocks, and three assists to help lead the Mustangs to victory, a night after breaking the program-record (previously seven) for blocks in a game with 11. Parsley would finish with a career-high 14 points, including nine points in the overtime periods.Â

The Mustangs made 10 three-pointers on a season-high 43.5 percent shooting, while shooting 38.9 percent from the field (28-of-72). The Golden Bears would shoot 42.9 percent from field (33-of-77), while making three three-pointers on 30 percent shooting. The Mustangs would win the game at the line, making 28 of 36 free throws while CSP would make 16 of 23 from the stripe.Â

Five Mustangs would score at least 14 points, with Akoi and Parsley joined by
Meleah Reinhart, whose 23 points and four steals led the team, while adding nine rebounds.
Jenna Borchers would collect her first career double-double, scoring 14 points while adding a team-high 10 rebounds and five assists.
Sadie Stelter would also score 14 points, adding six rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Sam Wall would add eight points off the bench, while
Erin Baxter would score six points, making both three pointers attempted, dishing four assists, and grabbing two rebounds.Â

CSP was led by Lindsey Becher, who led all scorers with 31 points, adding seven rebounds and six blocks in a matchup of two of the top shot blockers in the nation.Â

After Reinhart opened the scoring with a mid-range jumper to get the crowd rolling, CSP would quickly attempt to silence them, scoring 11 straight points to take an 11-2 lead and force an SMSU timeout at the 5:41 mark of the first quarter.Â

The Mustangs would quickly counter with their own 11-0 run, led by Stelter and capped off by a jumper by Reinhart to storm to a 13-11 lead. Becher would score six points in the final 2:39 of the quarter, helping CSP take a 19-17 lead into the second quarter.

CSP would open the second quarter by growing the lead to 25-19 at the 8:04 mark. The Mustangs would hang together, scoring six of the next seven points to cut the CSP lead to 26-25 at the 4:59 mark, and after a Becher layup,
Hannah Parsley would drill a corner three to even the score at 28-28.Â

After a 7-2 CSP run, Akoi would end the first half scoring with a wide open three from the wing to go into the half trailing 35-33. Akoi and Becher would show why they are two of the best shot blockers in the nation, with each sending five shots away in the first half.Â

CSP outshot the Mustangs 45.5-32.4 percent in the half, but the Mustangs would make two more threes as the Golden Bears and knock down all seven free throws to stay within two.Â

Reinhart would open the second half igniting an 11-2 run to give the Mustangs a 44-37 lead with 6:49 to go in the third quarter. Reinhart would make a pair of layups, while Baxter and Stelter would each nail a three-pointer, and Akoi would knock down a free throw.Â

The Mustangs would inch to a 57-49 lead with 1:56 to go after a Wall triple, but CSP would knock down a three with just under a minute left to cut it to 57-52. Just before the horn sounded, Reinhart would get fouled and make a pair of free throws to go into the fourth quarter leading 59-52.

After CSP scored the first eight points of the fourth to take a 60-59 lead with 3:49 left, Baxter would hit a big-time triple to reclaim the lead at 62-60. Becher would tie the game the next possession with a layup at the 3:10 mark.Â

Each team would make a free throw to knot the game at 63, and Reinhart would step to the line and make a pair to take a 65-63 lead with 49 ticks left.Â

Becher would come back down and hit a layup to tie the game with 29 seconds left, and Borchers would come right down the court and make a layup with 1.3 to go to take a lead, but Becher would get fouled and make a pair of free throws to send the game to overtime at 67-67.Â

After each team would score a pair of points to open overtime, CSP would make a layup, and then collect an offensive board for another layup to lead 73-69 with 2:54 to go. CSP would hold a 75-71 lead with 2:07 to go, but Borchers would make another big bucket to cut the lead to 75-73.Â

After a CSP miss, Borchers would end up distributing a big basket, leading Akoi to a basket down low to tie the game at 75-75.Â

With 38 seconds left, CSP would make a layup and get a chance at a three-point play but would miss the ensuing free throw to hold a 77-75 lead. Following a timeout, Reinhart would score off a back cut after a timeout to knot the game back up.Â
Â
CSP would run out of time on the shot clock and give SMSU a chance to win with 4.5 seconds to go, but SMSU would miss a chance to win as time expired to send the game into a second overtime.Â

Parsley would create separation to open the second overtime, scoring five points off an and-one and two more free throws to give SMSU a five-point cushion with 2:29 to go in the game.Â

After a CSP bucket to cut the SMSU lead to three, Akoi would knock down a triple to build the lead back, 85-79 with 1:49 to go. There would be one more field goal the rest of the way, scored by CSP, but the Mustangs would knock down 9 of 10 free throws down the stretch th close out the nine-point victory.Â
