TUCSON, Ariz. – The Southwest Minnesota State University baseball team snapped a two-game losing skid on Tuesday scoring a season-high runs and stealing six bases in earning a 15-5 victory over previous unbeaten Emerson College (Mass.) played at the Kino Sports Complex.

Mustang starting pitcher
Ansen Dulas (1-0) shrugged off a shaky start to record a career-high 10 strikeouts in six innings of work to earn the victory. Dulas allowed just two batters to reach base in his final four innings or work with both coming via wild pitches on strikeouts. Â

SMSU's six stolen bases is its highest total since recording six versus Winona State in 2008. The school record is eight.

The Mustangs finished the game with 10 hits and took advantage of 12 walks and two hit by pitches by the Lions' pitching staff to improve to 3-5 overall.

The Lions scored the game's first run in the home half of the first to take an early lead, but the Mustangs answered in a big way with five runs on four hits in the second.
Keenan Wenzel plated the first run with a single and was followed by a two-run single by
Nick Brown.
Chase McDaniel and
Isaac Nett both added RBI singles later in the frame to push the lead to 5-1.

Emerson (4-1) came right back with its own big second inning tying the game with four runs on three hits to tie the game at 5-5 after two innings.

SMSU went back in front in the third as
Max Kalenberg doubled to start the frame and scored on a
Jake Tauer run-scoring single. Two batters later the score moved to 7-5 as Wenzel hit a sac fly to plate Tauer.

The lead moved to 9-5 in the fourth as Nett worked a one-out walk and promptly stole second.
Jaxon Haase brought Nett home with a single through the left side and would later score on a wild pitch.

The Mustangs expanded the lead in the fifth behind wild Lions pitching. SMSU would score four runs on just one hit, while earning four walks and one hit by pitch to push the lead to 13-5.

SMSU would tack on two more in the sixth behind a two-run single by McDaniel to make the score 15-5.

The run support was plenty for Dulas who cruised through the third to sixth innings.
Andy Andresen finished the game tossing a scoreless seventh with one strikeout to secure the 10-run rule win.

McDaniel finished the game 2 for 5 with three RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base, while Haase was 2 for 5 with three RBIs. Brown was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, while Wenzel and Nett both finished with two RBIs. Nett and Tauer both had two stolen bases, while McDaniel and
Robbie Smith each had one.
