SARTELL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's tennis team closed the regular season on Sunday earning a hard-fought 4-3 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory over St. Cloud State University at the Sta-Fit Tennis Center.
SMSU closes the regular season with a 16-10 overall record, including an 8-3 mark in conference play. The Mustangs tied for third place in the NSIC final standings and earned the third seed in the upcoming NSIC Tournament.
SMSU claimed the doubles points by winning two of three matches.
Courtenay Leonard and
Joana Reis Indio teamed up for a 6-0 victory at No. 1, while
Roz Oye and
Cora Delich earned another victory at No. 3 by a score of 6-3. Oye and Delich finished conference play with an 8-3 record and have earned a team-high 15 victories.
In singles play, Reis Indio earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 1, Leonard won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2, while
Kristina Vuksanovic rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3.
The official NSIC Tournament bracket, which will be held in Sioux Falls, S.D., on April 22-24 will be announced on Tuesday night.
