MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's soccer team closed out its weekend with a 1-1 tie against Winona State on Sunday afternoon at the Schwan Regional Event Center.
 
SMSU moved their record to 0-1-4 overall, 0-1-1 NSIC, while WSU improves to 3-1-1 overall, 1-0-1 NSIC.
 
The Mustangs trotted out with pressure from the start, as 
Kirsten Wetterstrom would send a pass into the box from the right corner that would be deflected by 
Alex Lotts and onto the foot of 
Brooke Wetterstrom, who scored the first goal of her career, 39 seconds into the game put the Mustangs in front 1-0.
WSU leveled the match in the 33rd minute, as a corner kick by Jaida Wiege snuck into the top right corner of the goal after deflecting off a Mustang foot, bringing the match to 1-1.
SMSU applied pressure nearly the entire game, outshooting WSU 19-11 while having eight shots on goal to the Warriors' five. K. Wetterstrom took six shots, with three going on goal, to lead the Mustang offense.
Rachel Hicks got the start in goal for SMSU, making four saves and giving up the one goal.
The Mustangs hit the road next weekend, heading to Minot, N.D. for a matchup at Minot State on Friday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m.
