WAYNE, Neb. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's soccer team saw a late lead slip away as Wayne State scored the tying goal in the 83
rd minute to earn a 1-1 tie in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action on Friday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Complex.
SMSU, now 1-3-6 overall, 1-3-3 NSIC, broke the scoreless game in the 56
th minute as
Haley Mason scored her first career goal off a pass from
Alex Lotts.
SMSU would maintain the advantage until WSC (1-5-4, 1-3-3) scored the equalizer on a rebound by Christina Marlo Wayne following a free kick from teammate Payton Haliburton.
Rachel Hicks started in the net and made five saves for the Mustangs.
SMSU closed the game with nine shots, including eight on goal. Lotts led the squad with four shots on goal, while Mason added two shots on goal.
SMSU will have Saturday off before returning to action on Sunday with a 1 p.m. match-up versus Augustana University in Sioux Falls, S.D.
