MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State, ranked No. 13 nationally, used a pair of second half goals to pull away and earn a 3-0 victory over Southwest Minnesota State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's college soccer on Friday afternoon inside the Maverick All-Sport Dome.
The game was moved indoors due to poor weather.
MSU, which improved to 7-1-3 overall, 5-0-2 NSIC, opened the game's scoring in the fourth minute to build an early advantage. MSU would maintain a 12-6 shot advantage at the break with six on goal, while SMSU finished the opening half with four shots on goal.
The Mavericks would put the game away early in the second half with a pair of quick goals, scoring in the 49
th and 51
st minutes.
MSU closed the game with 30 shots with 14 on goals, while SMSU (2-6-1, 2-3-1 NSIC) ended the game with 11 shots with six on net.

Kylie Birath each recorded a shot on goal for the Mustangs.
Kenna Conley started in goal for the Mustangs and allowed all three goals with six saves.
Rachel Hicks came into the game with 31 minutes remaining and made five saves.
Avery Korsching scored two goals to pace MSU, while goalkeeper Mackenzie Rath recorded six saves to earn the shutout.
MSU has now defeated SMSU 22 times in 24 all-times meetings, including nine straight since SMSU won in the NCAA Tournament in 2013.
SMSU will look to get back into the win column on Sunday with a 1 p.m. road match versus the University of Sioux Falls.
