Senior guard Sam Wall scored a team high 12 points in the contest on 33.3 percent shooting (4-12), while adding four rebounds and two assists. Her two 3-pointers now place her in the top five in career 3-pointers made in program history with 171 in 102 games. Bri Stoltzman was the only other Mustang to reach double-figure scoring today, grabbing 11 points on 5 of 10 shooting, while pulling down a team-high seven rebounds. The Wildcats struck early, opening the game with a 10-2 run with 5:38  left in the first quarter. A layup from Wagner swung momentum back in favor of SMSU, sparking a 14-0 run backed by four different Mustangs to close the first period with a 16-10 lead.

SMSU opened the second quarter scoring with a paint jumper from Wall, which was answered the following possession by the Wildcats' Makaylee Kuhn. Blandin pushed the Mustangs lead to 21-17 off a 3-pointer with 7:42 remaining in the half. However, Northern Michigan would not go away, going on a 11-4 run to close the half with the 31-29 lead.

Both teams battled to open the second half, trading baskets until a score of 42-37 in favor of NMU. The Wildcats would steal momentum to close out the period, going on a 12-8 run caused mostly by Mustang fouls and missed shots.

SMSU was called for nearly double the fouls NMU was with 15 in comparison to the Wildcats eight. The Mustangs committed six more turnovers than the Wildcats, allowing NMU the 23-14 advantage in points created off turnovers.

Northern Michigan continued its run into the final quarter, scoring 7 of the 9 opening points. Sam Wall drilled a three to end the run with 6:43 left in the game, but the deficit would prove to be too much. NMU outscored SMSU 20-8 in the final quarter of play.
