Mustangs take on Sioux Falls and Augustana in final games before the New Year

THE LOOK AHEAD
• SMSU hosts the University of Sioux Falls (3-6, 1-4 NSIC) on Thursday, Dec. 14, with tip-off slated for 7:30 p.m. inside the R/A Facility
• The Mustangs then hit the road for match-up against Augustana (1-6, 1-4 NSIC) on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 7:30 p.m. inside the Sanford Pentagon

SIOUX FALLS SERIES HISTORY
• SMSU and Sioux Falls will meet for the 42nd time with the Mustangs holding a 21-20 edge in a series that started in 1969.
• USF is 12-7 all-time in Marshall and has beaten SMSU in four of the last five games inside the R/A Facility dating back to the 2017-18 season.
• The Mustangs bested the Cougars in both games last season and have won three of the last five meetings.

AUGUSTANA SERIES HISTORY
• SMSU and Augustana will meet for the 53rd time with the Vikings holding a 34-18 advantage in a series that started in 1969.
• The Mustangs have won three of the last five meetings against the Vikings.
• SMSU is 4-20 all-time in Sioux Falls and last defeated AU on the road on Jan. 3, 2020.
• AU split two games with the Mustangs last season.

LAST TIME OUT
• SMSU moved back into the win column on Friday night defeating Concordia-St. Paul 64-62 inside the R/A Facility.
Bri Stoltzman led SMSU with 26 points on 10 of 19 shooting, while also grabbing six rebounds. Madison Gehloff was the only other Mustang to reach double-figure scoring with 12 points, while pulling down a team-high seven rebounds.
Hannah Parsley collected a team-high three steals, while grabbing five rebounds and scoring seven points.
The Mustangs finished the game shooting 36 percent (21 of 59) from the field with six 3-pointers in 23 attempts.
Bri Stoltzman poured in a game-high 31 points with five rebounds and three steals to pace SMSU to an 86-80 victory over No. 19 ranked Minnesota Duluth on Saturday night inside the R/A Facility.
• The victory was SMSU's first over UMD since Jan. 30, 2016, snapping a seven-game streak in the series.
Sam Wall scored 16 points with a pair of 3-pointers for the Mustangs, while Hannah Parsley added 13 points, grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, and dished out a team-high three assists.
Kenzie Jones came off the bench to score 12 points on 4 of 5 shooting with one 3-pointer to help the Mustang charge.
• SMSU shot 51 percent (29 of 57) from the field, while making 8 of 19 from 3-point range. It was SMSU's second time this season shooting higher than 50 percent from the field.
 
MUSTANGS BY THE NUMBERS
• For the season, SMSU has two players averaging double figures in scoring, and three averaging over eight points per game, with junior Bri Stoltzman leading the way at 19.6 ppg while leading the team in rebounding at 7.0 per game and also in assists with 27.
• Senior Sam Wall is averaging 11.2 ppg and shooting 85 percent from the foul line. She leads the team with 19 3-pointers.
• Senior Madison Gehloff  is scoring 8.8 ppg and is second on the team with 24 free throw makes.
• Junior Peyton Blandin and senior Hannah Parsley round out the SMSU top scorers, averaging 8.6 ppg and 8.4 ppg, respectively. Kenzie Jones is tied for a team-second 17 3-pointers.
• SMSU is shooting 40 percent from the field, 31 percent from 3-point range, 74 percent from the free throw line and is minus-3.1 in rebound margin. The Mustangs are averaging 71 points per game, while opponents are averaging 74 ppg.
• SMSU is seventh in Division II in 3-point attempts per game (28.5) and 14th in 3-pointers made per game (8.4).
 
STONE COLD STOLTZMAN
Bri Stoltzman recorded a career-high 36 points on 13 of 23 shooting in a loss to Northwest Missouri State on Nov. 10. She recorded her second 30-point game of her career with 31 points on 9 of 18 shooting in the win over No. 19 Minnesota Duluth on Dec. 9.
• Stoltzman is leading the team in scoring, rebounding, assists, and steals. She also has made a team-high 44 free throws on 56 attempts. As of Dec. 11, she ranks 16th in scoring and 34th in field goals made in Division II.
 
KEEP THE WALL ROLLING
Sam Wall set the program record for 3-pointers made in a single-season last season with 77.
• Wall ranks fourth all-time in 3-pointers made in program history with 182 in 108 games. She is eight away from moving into third place all-time and passing Michelle Bruns (2001-2005).
• The senior guard also ranks sixth in free throw percentage at .818 (139 of 170) and is 10th in 3-point field goal percentage at .374 (182 of 486).

SMSU HEAD COACH TOM WEBB
Tom Webb is in his eighth season as head coach with a 81-108 record, including 60-87 in NSIC play.
• Webb is 172-231 overall in his 15th season as head coach at the Division II level after compiling a record of 91-123 in eight seasons (2008-16) as head coach at Cameron University (Okla.).
• Last season, SMSU advanced to the NSIC semifinals for the fourth time in program history and first time since 2003.
• The team finished with 19 victories a season ago, tying for fifth most in program history, and highest total since 2004-05.
• SMSU also recorded a top three finish in the NSIC South last season, best in the division era, while earning a top four finish in the NSIC regular season standings for the first time since 2004-05.

PEYTON BLANDIN NOTES
• Started all eight games and is averaging 8.6 ppg, 3.6 rpg, and is tied for second on the team in 3-pointers with 17.
• Scored a career-high 17 points vs. Northwest Missouri State (11/10/23).
 
KENNADI BUCHHOLZ NOTES
• Has played in six games recording 15 points and nine rebounds.
• Tallied 30 points, 26 rebounds, three steals, and five blocks in 16 games last year.
• Recorded her first double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 13 rebounds last season vs. Crown College (11/15/22)
 
BRYNN BUSSE NOTES
• Has played in eight games.
• Has recorded nine points, three rebounds, and three steals.
 
ZOIE CENTERS NOTES
• Has played in four games and scored four points.
• Tallied seven points, nine rebounds, and five assists in 18 games last season.
 
MADISON GEHLOFF NOTES
• Has started every game this season and is averaging 8.8 ppg and 4.4 rpg.
• Scored season-high 18 points on 7 of 14 shooting at Winona State (12/1/23). 
• Last season, tied a career-high with 20 points against Northwest Missouri State (11/11/22).
• Career-high 13 rebounds and five assists against Sioux Falls (11/22/22).
 
KENZIE JONES NOTES
• Appeared in every game this season, starting eight, and is averaging 7.9 ppg and 3.0 rpg.

• Has played in nine games, starting two. Missed one game with an injury.

• SMSU is 3-2 at home this season after finishing 11-4 at home in 2022-23 and 10-3 in 2021-22.

SMSU ALL-TIME IN THE NSIC
• The 2023-24 campaign marks the 45th season SMSU has competed in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
• SMSU has an all-time record of 282-421 in conference games and have won four regular season championships (1979-80, 1980-81, 2000-01, 2001-02) and one NSIC Tournament championship (2002).
 
MUSTANG HISTORY
• Southwest Minnesota State is in its 55th season of women's basketball in 2023-24.
• SMSU has played 1,367 games compiling an all-time record of 655-712.
• SMSU has recorded 28 winning seasons, including the last three seasons. The 2019-20 squad that finished 16-12 was the program's first winning season since 2009-10.

• USF is 3-6 on the season and last played on Dec. 9 suffering a 63-39 home loss to Concordia-St. Paul. The Cougars are 1-4 on the road this season.
• Kami Wadsworth leads the team in scoring at 11.4 ppg and leads the Cougars in field-goal percentage shooting 43.2 percent.
• Ayla Brown is scoring 9.6 ppg ranking second on the club, and leads the squad in free throw makes with 19 and assists with 23.
• Riley Moreland is scoring 7.2 ppg and leads the team in blocks with 14, good enough for 35th overall in Division II.
• USF is shooting 36 percent from the field, 24 percent from 3-point range, 71 percent from the free throw line and is minus-4.7 in rebound margin.
• The Cougars are averaging 55 points per game, while opponents are averaging 61 ppg.
 
AUGUSTANA NOTES 
2023-24 Record: 1-6 overall, 1-4 NSIC

• AU is 1-6 on the season and last played on Dec. 9 suffering a 53-44 home loss to Winona State. The Vikings are 1-3 in the Sanford Pentagon this season.
• Michaela Jewett leads the team in scoring at 17.1 ppg with a team-high 19 3-pointers. She also leads the team in free throws with 13 makes on 18 attempts.
• Lauren Sees is scoring 13.4 ppg ranking second on the club, and leads the squad in assists with 20.
• Jennifer Aadland is scoring 9.4 ppg on 41.9 percent shooting. The junior forwards leads the team in rebounds and blocks with 57 and 11, respectively.
• AU is shooting 36 percent from the field, 31 percent from 3-point range, 73 percent from the free throw line and is minus-1.5 in rebound margin. The Vikings are averaging 61 points per game, while opponents are averaging 69 ppg.
