WEST FARGO, N.D. – The third day of the 2023 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championship concluded on Friday with Southwest Minnesota State remaining in seventh place at the nine-team championship with 113 points.
The four-day championship is being hosted by MSU Moorhead and held inside the Hulbert Aquatic Center.
A total of five event finals took place on Friday night with Augustana leading the championship through 15 overall events with 684 points, while Minnesota State is in second place with 639 points.
SMSU's
Natalie Bohnert had a strong day advancing to the 'A' finals of the 100-yard backstroke with a morning prelim time of 57.89. She finished sixth place in the finals with a time of 57.63 to earn SMSU 13 points.
Bohnert also advanced to the 'A' finals of the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:14.07 and placed seventh in the final with a time of 2:13.18 to earn 12 points.
Olivia Sholl advanced to the 'B' finals in the 100-yard breaststroke and touched the wall at 1:07:73 to finish 13th overall and earn SMSU four points.
Jessa Polchow also moved on to the 'B' finals in the 200-yard butterfly and earned SMSU one point with a time of 2:21.84 to finish 16th overall.
Quincie Klein advanced to the 'C' finals in the 500-yard freestyle and recorded a time of 5:24.30.
Maija Geier competed in the 'C' finals of the 100-yard backstroke and finished with a time of 59.14.
SMSU's 800-yard freestyle relay team of Geier, Klein,
Juliana Villa and
MacKenzie Kallevig earned 14 points with a time of 8:03.31 to finish 10
th overall. SMSU picked up six more points with the 800-yard freestyle relay team of
Annika Freiburger, Sholl,
Addi Schroeder, and Polchow finishing with a time of 8:18.68 for 14
th overall.
The final day of the championship on Saturday will have prelims starting at 10 a.m. with finals at 5:30 p.m. Saturday's action will have the 1650 Free, 100 IM, 100 Free, 200 Back, 200 Breast, 1-Meter Diving, 400 Free Relay.
The top three finalists in each individual event and top two finalists in each relay event will be recognized as NSIC All-Conference during the meet.
