SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's basketball team dropped its final regular season road matchup 88-56 against the Augustana Vikings on Thursday night inside the Sanford Pentagon.
The Mustangs move to 16-10 overall and 13-8 in the NSIC, while Augustana jumps to 23-4 overall and 17-4 NSIC.
Sam Wall led the Mustangs with 14 points, while
Bri Stoltzman collected her second double-double in her last three games, scoring 12 points and adding 11 rebounds while swatting a pair of shots.
Hannah Parsley scored 10 points and led the team with two steals.
SMSU shot a season-low 29.4 percent (20 of 68) from the field and 16.1 percent (5 of 31) from three while making 11 of 17 free throws. Augustana closed the game shooting 51.6 percent (32 of 62) from the field, 44.4 percent (8 of 18) from three, and finished 16 of 18 from the free throw line.
The Mustangs hung around early, taking an 8-6 lead with 7:11 left in the first quarter.
The next 15:25 would be all Vikings, as a 39-9 run put them in front 45-15 with 1:46 left in the first half.
SMSU battled to end the half, outscoring AU 9-4 to trail 49-24 at the half.
Augustana out-shot SMSU 62.5 percent to 23-3 percent in the first half while holding a 26-9 rebounding advantage.
The Mustangs rolled to open the second half, scoring eight of the first 10 points to get within 19 at 51-32 with 7:04 left in the third quarter. Each team scored a bucket to bring it to 53-34, but that would be as close as SMSU could get.
Augustana led by more than 20 points the rest of the way, taking a 72-49 lead into the fourth quarter, and saw its largest lead of the game at 88-54 with 2:00 remaining in the game.
The Mustangs close the regular season on Saturday night at 5:30 p.m., against Wayne State inside the R/A Facility.
