WEST FARGO, N.D. – The first day of the 2023 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championship is complete with Southwest Minnesota State setting one school record while earning 46 points and is currently in seventh place at the nine-team championship.
The four-day championship is being hosted by MSU Moorhead and held inside the Hulbert Aquatic Center.
A total of five event finals took place on Wednesday night with Augustana leading the championship with 272 points. Minnesota State is in second place with 212 points, followed St. Cloud State in third place with 201 points. SMSU trails sixth-place UMary by 31 points.
SMSU had two teams in the 200-yard medley relay earn team points.
Maija Geier,
Olivia Sholl,
Heather Arlen and
MacKenzie Kallevig finished ninth with a school record time of 1:49.14 to earn 18 points, while
Juliana Villa,
Emily Ratajczak,
Jessa Polchow and
Addi Schroeder picked up six points with a 14
th place time of 1:54.28.
The Mustangs also had two teams in the 200-yard freestyle relay earn points as Kallevig, Schroeder,
Natalie Bohnert and Geier earned 14 points with a time of 1:39.23 to place 10
th overall.
Grace Busch, Arlen,
Quincie Klein and Villa earned eight team points by finishing 13
th at 1:43.43.
Geier advanced to the 'C' finals of the 50-yard freestyle and finished 20
th overall at 24.63.
In the 1,000-yard freestyle, Bohnert touched the wall at 11:09.70 to finished 17
th, with Kallevig placing 18
th at 11:14.04 and Klein finishing 20
th at 11:23.70.
Day two of the championship begins on Thursday with prelims at 10 a.m. with the finals beginning at 5:30 p.m. Thursday will feature the 100 Fly, 400 IM, 200 Free, 3-Meter Diving, 400 Medley Relay.
The top three finalists in each individual event and top two finalists in each relay event will be recognized as NSIC All-Conference during the meet.
