OMAHA, Neb. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's tennis team opened its 2023 spring season suffering a 7-0 loss at Division I Creighton University inside the Hanscom Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.
Creighton is now 5-0 on the season, while SMSU drops to 1-3 overall.
The Bluejays earned the doubles point by earning victories in all three doubles positions.
SMSU's
Courtenay Leonard and
Peyton-Lynn Anderson lost 6-2 at No. 1,
Joana Reis Indio and
Gabriela Almeida lost 6-1 at No. 2, while
Roz Oye and
Faith Madikwe suffered a 6-0 loss at No. 3.
In singles play, Leonard lost 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1, while Madikwe and Anderson both lost by scores of 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 and No. 5 respectively. Reis Indio lost 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3, while
Camila Paccieri and Almeida lost 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4 and No. 6 slots.
SMSU returns to the court versus another Division I school, the University of North Dakota, on Feb. 18 in Grand Forks, N.D.
